Well folks… here we are- saying goodbye to another year. Here is a quick roundup of the most liked photos on my Instagram (@theabbyallison) for 2016. It’s funny- sometimes I really like the photo I’m posting to Instagram and it doesn’t do well AT. ALL. Other times, I think the photo is decent and then it does really well! I never know what’s going to happen… haha! I thought it’d be fun to share a tidbit about each photo because it can sometimes be quite the effort to get the perfect ‘gram 😉 Read on below.
The most liked photo of the year! I wanted to shoot this outfit at a particular hotel in Palm Springs. The vibe of the hotel fit perfectly with the boho feel of the dress. We got there early in the morning and walked around the hotel, looking for a place to shoot. One of the workers finally asked us if we needed anything and that’s when we let her know that we were going to take some photos. Well…. apparently they don’t allow photos to be taken on their property, so…. we had to walk down the street until we found another place to shoot. We ended up finding this gorgeous bougainvillea lined wall, which ended up being a whole lot more beautiful than anything at the hotel! You can see the rest of the post here.
Our flight to Cali left SLC pretty early in the morning. We spent the first part of the afternoon in LA where we shot a few other outfits. The drive from LA to Laguna is quite short and I knew the first thing I wanted to do when we got there was hit the beach. It was the most beautiful day- straight sunshine and zero clouds. There weren’t very many people on the beach (especially for it being a Sunday) and we were lucky enough to have it almost to ourselves. There were cliffs at the end of the beach that looked really cool to shoot on. As we were walking along the beach to get there, we noticed thousands of small crab looking things that had washed up on shore. Most of them were already dead, but some looked like they were trying to catch a wave back to the ocean. Aside from that slightly traumatizing thing… we enjoyed the rest of the evening on the beach. This is what pure joy looks like- I’m happiest by the sea 🙂 You can see the original post here.
I had seen the Urban Light at the LACMA all over Instagram and knew I wanted to shoot there. What I didn’t know was that half it was under construction and the other half was filled with others trying to get the perfect Instagram photo! Luckily, Jordy is a bomb.com photog and was able to cut all that out of the photos. Oh, it was also pert near 100 degrees, so I was quite warm in a blazer and trousers 😉 Original post here.
One of my personal favorite photos from this year. I stumbled upon this amazing place while I was looking for things to do in the desert. This greenhouse was awesome and also awesomely hot and humid 😉 I’m surprised my hair didn’t fro out… haha! The colors in this place were magical and Jordy and I were both dying with how the photos were turning out. I would’ve gone home with 11 cactus plants, but I wasn’t quite sure how I’d get them home on the plane. Hmph. Original post here.
I decided to take my mum to Phoenix to see Keith Urban for her birthday. One of my best friends lives in AZ and she kept saying how perfect the weather would be in October. The weekend we were there, it was still 100 degrees; not the typical 80 degrees for that time of year. Our cute hotel had bikes they loaned out, which worked perfect for us as we hadn’t rented a car. When we got there, we decided to take them out for a spin to do a bit of exploring. We had passed this brick wall and on our way back, we stopped for a photo (I’m never one to pass up a great brick wall). I’m not sure how I managed to look half decent after riding bikes in 100 degree weather… what you don’t see is that I have freaking swass in a bad way. OMG. Luckily my mom had a shirt that I could tie around my waist…. talk about embarrassing.
We visited Kauai in the fall of 2015, but I had posted this photo on earth day 2016. Let’s keep the earth clean, so we can continue to look at views like this, k? You can see my full Kauai post here.
Sometimes I have places in my mind where I know I want to shoot. The problem is that I don’t know exactly where they’re located. This was one of them. We drove in circles around SLC until I finally saw it! Glad I did- good outfit and location 🙂 Original post here.
It was a downpour two seconds before this photo was taken. I watched the weather all day and it wasn’t calling for rain. As I was getting closer to SLC, the sky was getting darker and I knew it was going to rain. We shot the first two outfits from this same day partially indoors. Once the rain cleared for a minute, we were able to get this photo. The gray, gloomy day matched perfect with the neutral colors of the outfit… so it ended up working in our favor 🙂 Original post here.
Too many good walls in LA to count! Let me tell ya- you get some good looks while you’re shooting… I like to smile at people as they walk by (usually staring)- sometimes that’s how we get the most candid shots 🙂
Thank you so, so, SO much for your support this year. I’ll see you in 2017- have a fAB New Year!
